Today we’re announcing a few new features for Android users: dark theme, rich notifications, updated neighborhood safety scores, and Smart Lock compatibility. These new features increase personalization by enabling users to choose the way they view and access their travel plans in TripIt. Here’s what’s new in the app.

Dark Theme for Android

TripIt is now available in dark theme for Android. This news comes on the tail of Google announcing its first system-wide dark theme for Android. Dark theme—best known for not only saving your eyes but also your battery life—changes your device from white and/or light backgrounds to dark backgrounds. In doing so, you eliminate the blue light that radiates from your device, helping you get a better night’s sleep before your early morning flight.

Ready to make the switch? Well, great news—the only action you need to take is to turn your Android device to dark theme. TripIt will automatically display in dark theme once your device is set to it. To turn on dark theme, go to Settings > Display > Dark Theme and toggle it on.

Android

Rich Notifications

Starting today, rich notifications from TripIt show you more information—like your flight details—right from an alert. TripIt Pro users can also check in to a flight from an alert, or click to call their travel agency in the case of a flight delay.

Neighborhood Safety Scores—from day to night

The neighborhood safety scores feature you know and love just got better. TripIt now shows a day and night safety rating for the neighborhoods you’re visiting. The neighborhood safety score can be found in any of your lodging, restaurant, or activity plans.

Android

Smart Lock

Finally, let’s make accessing your TripIt account easier, shall we? Thanks to TripIt’s new compatibility with Android Smart Lock, it’s now even easier to remember your password and quicker to sign in to your TripIt account on a new device. If you’re not already familiar, Smart Lock enables you to set up your phone—and certain apps, such as TripIt—to stay safely unlocked for extended periods of time.

To enable this feature for TripIt, simply click “Save” when Smart Lock asks if you want to save your TripIt user name and password. That’s it!
